Medienwoche 2006
(August 30th-September 9th, 2006) Trade journals and reporters dubbed the Medienwoche 2005 “the most major industry conference in Europe” and “an essential platform for industry-wide communication in media.” As a cooperative undertaking that includes congress (Medienforum: August 30th-September 1st), trade market (IFA 2006: September 1st-6th) and many additional gatherings such as the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium (September 8th-9th) and with more than 10.000 expected industry visitors and journalists, Medienwoche 2006 is one of the biggest industry-wide meeting places in Germany and Europe. At the beginning of January, the German federal government announced a new film-financing model with 60 million Euros of annual funding, scheduled to take effect on January 1st, 2007 once awarding criteria have been set. For the first time since the public notification of the appealing model, Minister of State for Cultural Affairs, Bernd Neumann, will speak about the new framework for German filmmaking. Following this, Stefan Arndt (X-Filme), Dr. Carl Woebcken (Studio Babelsberg) and Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt (Polyphon) will discuss the subject in detail. Click here for further information. M100 Sanssouci Colloquium
(September 8th – 9th, 2006; Potsdam) Joffe, Baron and Schirrmacher to moderate M100 workshops

Three great representatives from the German media world will be leading a series of three M100 workshops dealing with “the media in times of international crises.” “The clash of cultures,“ moderated by Dr. Josef Joffe, Publisher of the Zeit, will look at the degree of freedom the press has in integrating terrorist opinions into its content. Stefan Baron, Editor in Chief of the Wirtschaftwoche, will investigate “the rise of the Internet; and whether it contributes to a global free-market for business and media.” In the third workshop, Frank Schirrmacher, Publisher of the FAZ will analyze “national media facing international challenges.” The outcome of the discussions will be presented by Charles Moore (Telegraph Group), Martin Kettle (The Guardian) and John Lloyd (Financial Times Weekend) to the general public on September 9th.
