The first edition of the brochure was well received at last year's MIPCOM but is now out of print. Media News from Berlin-Brandenburg Raise of Film Funding Budget
The Medienboard funding budget has been raised by 1.5 million euro. "The Berline Senate considers the film and media section as a dynamic and growing branche in the capital“, says André Schmitz, head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery. In 2005, for the first time the public broadcaster RBB also contributes 1 million euro to the Medienboard’s budget. Alltogether, in 2005 the Medienboard has 17.9 million euro for film funding and location development. Further information at www.medienboard.de Prix Europa (15-22 October 05, Berlin/Potsdam)
From 15 to 22 October 2005, Berlin and Potsdam will host the Prix Europa, where the crème de la crème of Europe's TV, radio and internet industries will vie for recognition. Under the brand name "Made in Europe", Prix Europa aims to showcase the wide spectrum of European media production, highlight cross-cultural trends in programming and provide a platform for quality products. This year, the 21st Berlin International Short Film Festival will be organized by Interfilm Berlin. In the first week of November, the jury and the public will assess the merits of over 400 films from all over the world. Presided over by an international jury, the Short Awards up for grabs in the international competition include Best Short Film, Best Animation and Best Camera. Film Festival Cottbus / Connecting Cottbus (8-12 November 05, Cottbus)
As part of the Film Festival Cottbus (8-12 November 05), the East European Film Festival, Connecting Cottbus (10-11 November 05), the market forum for film, will take place for the seventh year running. The market creates a platform for producers, editors, sponsors and distributors from both eastern and western Europe. Hungary is this year’s festival focus. November will also see the return of the international animation scene to Berlin-Brandenburg. The focus of this year's CARTOON FEATURE, held in Potsdam, will be "New Challenges for Animation Films". Over a three-day period, producers, marketing experts, distributors, buyers, lawyers, broadcasters and creative minds will discuss ways to promote animation films on the international market. Since 2000, the German Synchronizing Prize has been an absolute must in the film industry calendar in Brandenburg. Every year, the German dubbing industry gathers in Brandenburg to pay homage to actors, directors and writers whose interpreting skills play an enormous role in the success of international films in German cinemas and series on German television. The award ceremony will take place on 26 January in the Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam. For more information, go to www.ac-special.de. Berlinale (09 -19 February 06, Berlin)
Following a visitor record this year, the Berlinale 2006 is once again expected to attract great interest from the international film community and movie lovers alike. In 2005, more than 17,000 passes were issued to visitors from 120 different countries, 3,800 of them to journalists. 1,000 more film industry representatives visited Berlin than in 2004. Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg will contribute to the Berlinale with the Berlin Today Award (BTA) on the Berlinale Talent Campus and with the BerlinAngelsDay. Cartoon Movie is viewed as the most important funding market and platform for the European animation industry. The event is being held for the eighth consecutive year. Approximately 500 artists, producers, distributors, agents and investors from all over Europe will meet in the fx.Center in Potsdam Babelsberg.
