C.R.C. - Capital Regions for Cinema: paving way for European co-productions
On the occasion of the Co-production meeting organized by C.R.C. (Capital Regions for Cinema) during the Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 12th-14th), political representatives of the four European Capital Regions Berlin-Brandenburg, Paris Ile-de-France, Madrid, Rome-Lazio met for the first time all together in order to develop a common strategy for European co-productions.
André Schmitz (head of Berlin Senate chancellery) and Erhard Thomas (Media Representative, Brandenburg) welcomed the political representatives (Isabel Martínez-Cubells, Vice-Consejera de Cultura y Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid, Francis Parny ,Vice-president in charge of culture – Région Ile-de-France, Giulia Rodano ,Councillor in charge of Culture, Entertainment and Sport – Regione Lazio) in Berlin. Unanimously the politicians agreed their support for the CRC activities and confirmed they wanted to promote a stronger partnership between the regions. They believe in the necessity to work together on strengthening the collaboration of the four Capital Regions’ funding systems in order to improve European co-productions.
The next encounter of the C.R.C. network will take place at the upcoming Festival de Cannes (May 17th-29th). The European network has been launched in Cannes 2005 by the Ile de France Film Commission, Lazio Film Commission, Madrid Film Commission and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. The aim of this initiative is to further promote the collaboration between the members of C.R.C. to produce from the respective regions and to encourage cooperation between the producers of these regions.
