The international digital community is currently gathering in the capital for the fifth Berlin
Web Week, which lasts until next Wednesday. Under the motto "Meet.Connect.Inspire" this annual event brings together the “re:publica” and “NEXT Berlin”
conferences as well as many other events under one umbrella. More than 6,000 participants are expected to attend the key “re:publica” and “NEXT 6”
events where they will explore current questions occupying the digital industry and digital society. The Berlin Web Week 2012 is organized by the Medienboard
Berlin-Brandenburg and Berlin Partner.

May 2-4, 2012, Station-Berlin, Berlin re:publica The Berlin Web Week gets underway with the “re:publica,” Germany’s largest conference focusing on
blogs, social media and digital society. Attendees at this year’s events will debate the influence of social networks on political protest movements
under the motto “Action.” Yet another focus of discussions will be the ACTA Agreement, a recent international treaty that aims to establish international
standards for intellectual property rights enforcement. The re:publica’s combination of high-quality lectures and relaxed festival atmosphere make it
a flagship event in the European digital community.

Three Medienboard-Funded Films in Competition at Cannes
Three films funded by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg will
be in competition at the 65th Cannes Film Festival in May. The winner of the 2009 Palme d’Or, Michael Haneke, will celebrate the world premiere of his
new film “
Love” (“Amour”), a co-production with Berlin-based X Filme Creative Pool, along the Croisette. After 2010’s “My Joy,” Sergei Loznitsa
has been invited back to the competition this year with “
In the Fog,” co-produced by ma.ja.de Filmproduktion. And the director of the cult film “The
Lovers on the Bridge,” Leos Carax, will enter the race for the 2012 Palme d’Or with the Pola Pandora co-production “
Holy Motors” and a prominent
cast including Denis Lavant, Eva Mendes, Michel Piccoli and Kylie Minogue. The traditional Medienboard reception takes place on May, 21 at the Grand Hotel.

Europe’s capital cities continue to be enormously attractive to international creatives.
These are the locations where culture, creativity and business meet in unparalleled fashion. In 2005, with the goal of pooling the enormous potential of
these cities and to expand conditions for co-operative productions, the major European film cities joined together to create the Capital Regions for Cinema
Network (CRC) consisting of Berlin-Brandenburg, Paris/Île de France, Rom-Latium and Madrid. On May 22nd at the Cannes Film Festival, the CRC will once
again bring together producers, distributors and investors at a co-production gathering organized by the European network. The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg
will represent the German capital region.
