Film-Summer in the City! Medienboard funds 31 new projects with 4.8 million Euros
In its third annual round of funding, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg granted more than 4.8 million Euros to 31 projects that will be produced, developed or distributed by film professionals in the German capital region.
Production funding for national and international films
The biggest amount of funding went to Michael "Bully" Herbig’s new movie "Der Ballon (AT)" (herbXfilm, 700.000 €). The well-known German comedian tells the story of two East-German families’ attempted escape into the West. Actress and female director Julie Delpy, is also coming to Berlin-Brandenburg for her next movie. The project titled "My Zoe" (Amusement Park Film, 600.000 €) deals with the difficult relationship of a divorced husband and wife and their child, starring German actor Daniel Brühl and "Berlin Station"-leading man Richard Armitage alongside Julie Delpy.
Another female director, Oscar-winner Caroline Link will work on the autobiographical film "Der Junge muss an die frische Luft" (UFA FICTION, 350.000 €) based on the novel of Hape Kerkeling. Bora Dagtekin is involved in the third and last sequel of the famous "Fack Ju Göhte"-series – "Fack Ju Göhte 3" (Constantin Film, 500.000 €) funded by the Medienboard and starring Elyas M’Barek, Jella Haase and Sandra Hüller.
Ritesh Batra’s new project, a romantic comedy titled "Photograph" (Pola Pandora Filmproduktion, 300.000 €) is also in the production pipeline. It tells the story of an Indian photographer unwilling to get married by arrangement. Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg is also supporting the documentary feature "Kulissen der Macht" (Katuh Studio, 100.000 €) by Oscar nominee Dror Moreh ("The Gatekeepers"). Additionally, Dominik Graf’s judicial drama "Buback (AT)" will be produced with the support of the Medienboard.
5 Projects received funding from the Medienboard: among them "Iron Box" (Schmitt, Suba, von Heinz, Wnendt & Gasmia GbR, 40.000 €) by Julia von Heinz, "Black Box" (Twenty Twenty Vision Filmproduktion, 20.000 €) by Asli Özge, "Der Fall Collini" (Mythos Film Produktions, 45.000 €) and Maximilian Erlenwein’s comedy "Eins zwei Polizei" (Rommel Film, 40.000 €).
Last but not least, 12 new features will be released with the distribution support of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. Among others, these include Anika Decker’s "High Society" (Warner Bros., 70.000 €), Franziska Meletzky’s "Vorwärts immer!" (DCM Film Distribution, 70.000 €) and Helene Hegemann‘s "Axolotl Overkill" (Constantin Film Verleih, 50.000 €). Distribution funding also went to Arne Feldhusen‘s "Magical Mystery oder: Die Rückkehr des Karl Schmidt" (DCM Film Distribution, 70.000 €), Stéphane Robelin‘s "Monsieur Pierre geht online" (Neue Visionen, 70.000 €) Sebastian Lelio’s "Eine fantastische Frau - Una Mujer Fantàstica" (Piffl Medien, 50.000 €) and Thomas Arslan’s "Helle Nächte" (Piffl Medien, 20.000 €).
Altogether 87 applications requesting a total amount of 17.9 million Euros were received in this year’s third funding session.
