London calling! The German-British Coproduction Meeting 2016
London/Potsdam/Berlin - Guess who’s coming to Britain? German and British producers met for the second time at a coproducer’s workshop and dinner on Monday in London, during the London Film Festival. This initiative was launched last year by the German Federal Film Fund (FFA), the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the British Film Institute (BFI) with an initial meeting taking place last year in Berlin.
German industry experts such as Conny Hammelmann (DFFF), Mechthild Holter (Players Agency), Philipp Klausing (line producer on "Homeland"), Christoph Müller (Mythos Film Produktion) and Benjamin Herrmann (Majestic Film) sat down with their British counterparts to discuss funding opportunities, audience taste and the general state of the industry, in order to encourage German-British coproduction. More than 30 experts met this time round to explore the possibilities of joint projects.
Isabel Davis, Head of International BFI and Kirsten Niehuus, Managing Director Film Funding Medienboard: "Last year’s 'meet up' in Berlin was the first time in many years that such an auspicious gathering of UK and German film professionals have met, sat down and discussed the state of filmmaking together. We know that several partnerships were formed or crystallised at that event, with many more taking shape. We are very glad this time to welcome producers from across Germany and the UK, and other professionals, to finish all those conversations we didn’t have time for last December."
