Berlin 24/7: Medienboard and Filmlab Palestine launch residency programme for Palestinian filmmakers in Berlin

Berlin/Potsdam/Palestine – The artist-in-residence programme is growing to become a bigger network. Medienboard has partnered with the Filmlab Palestine in order to offer a 3 month residency in Berlin that will enable one Palestinian filmmaker to live and work in the Berlin capital region.

The new partnership was announced this week in Ramallah during the Palestine Days of Cinema held on 15-21 October, 2016. Medienboard’s partner, the Filmlab Palestine is a non-profit organization founded in 2014 and organizes the Days of Cinema event. The Berlin Film Residency allows a Palestinian filmmaker to come to Berlin to develop their own project, gain insight into the German film landscape, network and, last but not least, be inspired by the historic sites that define Berlin as an international film metropolis.

The 3 months grant includes travel to and from Palestine, housing and a monthly allowance. The residency is organized with the support of the Nipkow programme that also oversees the organization of other artist-in-residence programmes based in Berlin-Brandenburg.

Kirsten Niehuus, Managing Director Film Funding Medienboard: "We're excited that a Palestinian filmmaker will visit Berlin-Brandenburg as an artist-in-residence. This expansion of our residency programme enriches exchange within the international film community. We are very pleased to partner with the Filmlab and we would also like to thank Nipkow for their cooperation and support."

Hanna Atallah, Artistic Director Filmlab Palestine: "For Filmlab Palestine that has been growing a hub for people in film art, culture and industry, it is a pleasure to cooperate with Medienboard in an international artist-in-residence programme. The Berlin capital region provides great opportunities and professional grounding for Palestinian filmmakers to develop their skills and gain new artistic ideas."

Medienboard has film residency partnerships with Tel Aviv, Hongkong, Mumbai, Paris, Guanajuato, Toronto and now Palestine, in order to support Berlin-Brandenburg as a centre for international film networking.

Palestinean filmmakers interested in the Berlin residency should contact Hanna Atallah - Filmlab Palestine (h.atallah@flp.ps). The Programme manager for the Film Residencies at the Medienboard is Teresa Hoefert de Turégano (t.hoefert-de-turegano@medienboard.de).
