The Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises provides the means, Medienboard takes care of implementing the promotion. The programme starts on 3 August 2020.

Ramona Pop, mayor and Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Berlin: “As the film and digitalisation capital, with this special programme we are taking the next step and developing our profile as a digital/creative metropolis! This will send a clear signal from Berlin to the industry: we are strengthening a future-oriented, digital creative industry and we want to retain the specialists working in it and attract additional new talent. I’m looking forward to many breath-taking, digital visual effects made in Berlin!”

Christian Gaebler, Head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at MBB: “Visual effects are an integral part of any high-quality cinema and TV production. The fact that VFX and animation can now also receive support from the Medienboard is a future-oriented component in the funding portfolio of the film metropolis of Berlin. It is also essential in order to further develop the rapidly growing industry in the area of technology and to reinforce our international competitiveness.”

Kirsten Niehuus, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg managing director for film funding: “Supporting digital film production completes our film funding portfolio with an essential, future-oriented column which will make the film location even more attractive. It means that the real-life shooting location will be a mere ‘kangaroo hop’ removed from virtual-near-future or digital-history Berlin. The endless opportunities of digital film production are backed by the most innovative technologies and highly specialised jobs. Roll camera – or, pixels!”
