German-Polish funding for new films by Julia von Heinz, Tomasz Wasilewski and Agnieszka Zwiefka
In the first 2019 funding round, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, the German Federal Film Board and the Polish Film Institute funded three film projects with a total of 180,000 euros in the context of the German-Polish film fund.
In his new film, "Fools/Głupcy", Tomasz Wasilewski ("United States of Love") portrays the tragic relationship between 62-year-old Marlena and Tomasz (42) as well as Mikołaj (40) and gives an account of a love outside of societal norms. The One Two Films Berlin and Extreme Emotions Łodz production is supported by the fund with 125,000 euros.
Julia von Heinz ("I'm Off Then") is developing "Iron Box", a drama about the journey of New York businesswoman Ruth and her father Edek to Poland in the early 1990s, where they have to face the sad family history informed by the Holocaust as well as their difficult relationship with each other, which is based on Lily Brett’s successful novel "Too Many Men". Seven Elephants Berlin and Lava Films Łodz receive 30,000 euros in development funding.
"Wika", Poland’s oldest DJane at 80 years of age, is the centre of a new documentary by Agnieszka Zwiefka ("The Queen of Silence"). She accompanies Wika in her day-to-day life and while planning her great summer 2019 club tour and paints a portrait of a woman who is facing old age with her characteristic joie de vivre. The Ma.ja.de. Leipzig and My Wy Studio Warschau project receives 25,000 euros of development funding.
