4 films funded by Medienboard headed for Oscars

Berlin/Potsdam – 4 films funded by Medienboard have prospects to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar:

WERK OHNE AUTOR by Oscar winner Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is entering the race for Germany. The Wiedemann & Berg production premiered to the world at the 75th Venice Film Festival in September. 

Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s drama THE WILD PEAR TREE is running for Turkey. The film co-produced by Berlin’s DETAiLFILM was exhibited at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The film DONBASS by Sergei Loznitsas is Ukraine's hopeful in the preselection for an Oscar nomination. The drama, produced on German side by Ma.ja.de. Fiction, opened Un Certain Regard at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Sergei Loznitsa received the Un Certain Regard director’s award.

WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY by Iram Haq celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film co-produced by Rohfilm Factory on German side is entering the Oscar race for Norway.

The ceremony for the most coveted film award of the world takes place on 24 February 2019 in Los Angeles.
