700,000 euros of end-of-year funding for "Charlie’s Angels"
Berlin/Potsdam – The Bells Never Sound Sweeter ... A strong team of women in front of and behind the camera put hard-hitting action, spectacular stunts and in short emancipated genre cinema to film in the capital region just before Christmas! The Medienboard is contributing funding to the Studio Babelsberg co-production "Charlie’s Angels" at an amount of 700,000 euros.
During the entire month of November, shooting went on in Berlin on location and in the Babelsberg studios under the direction of "Hunger Games" star Elizabeth Banks. Banks ("Mockingjay") and her producer Elizabeth Cantillon ("The Girl in the Spider's Web") got to know and love the capital region during previous shoots.
In their "Charlie's Angels" reboot, the legendary trio of agents are played by "Twilight" idol Kristen Stewart, who also had shoots here many times before, as well as Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. But the unmistakable Berlin with its museum island, Pergamon stairway, Olympic stadium and main station is also joining them as a character actress.
Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus: "We are always very happy to hear that international stars feel so at home here that they love to return for shoots repeatedly. This has a lot of neat secondary effects: free Berlin advertising and job creation! Besides 14 German actors and actresses, 450 film craftspeople from all disciplines like light and sound as well as hair & make-up come from the region and the 20 large indoor and outdoor sets were built by 130 craftspeople form Berlin-Brandenburg for Studio Babelsberg. Cinema entertainment is not only fun, but an important economic factor in the capital region!"
The film is scheduled to open on 1 November 2019.
