German-Polish Film Fund funds 4 new projects

In the second 2019 funding round, Medienboard, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, the German Federal Film Board and the Polish Film Institute funded 4 film projects with a total of 350,000 euros in the context of the German-Polish film fund.

In her drama "Felicità" , Irma-Kinga Stelmach ("Preußisch Gangstar"), based on her own screenplay, tells the story of Polish woman Magda who quits her job as a caregiver in Italy to save her marriage and to win her family back. The project by 42film from Halle (Saale) and Film Art Production Kraków receives 140,000 euros in production funding.

Slawomir Fabicki, nomiated for an Oscar® in the Best Short Film (Live Action) category in 2002 with "A Man Thing" ("Meska sprawa") shows the journey of two sisters to a hospice in Holland in "Anxiety". The production by Rohfilm Factory Leipzig and Apple Film Production Warsaw is funded with 110,000 euros.

In "The Hamlet Syndrome", director duo Elwira Niewira and Piotr Rosolowski, who won the Venice Best Documentary award in 2017 in Venedig with "The Prince and the Dybbuk", use a modern theatre production of the Shakespeare classic as the starting point for the vibrant portrayal of a young Ukrainian generation wanting to change their country for the better against all odds. "The Hamlet Syndrome" is a joint project of Kundschafter Filmproduktion Berlin and Balapolis Warschau (70,000 euros in production funding).

In a mockumentary style, Filip Antoni Malinowski has five people from different social spheres encounter at a pool at the German-Polish border in "Swimming Pool". The project development of Produktion Berlin and Ragusa Film Warsaw is funded with 30,000 euros.

The upcoming submission deadline for German-Polish film projects is 13 December 2019.
