Berlin / Potsdam - For the first time in a funding round, the share of projects in which women are creatively responsible is over 50% of the funded projects – which is excellent! Among them are new Berlin series by directors Sherry Hormann (“Torstrasse 1”) and Julia von Heinz (“KaDeWe”), which are also carried by emancipated female characters beyond clichés in content, although or precisely because they are set in the 1920s. Barbara Albert devotes herself to the film adaptation of Julia Franck’s ambitious bestseller “Die Mittagsfrau” (“The Mid-Day Woman”) and Mia Hansen-Løve shoots “An einem schönen Morgen” (“One Beautiful Morning”) with Léa Seydoux. In real life as well, women are searching for and finding new positions, like Rand Beiruty, who documents a clique of Arab, Kurdish and Roma teenage girls between 2 cultures in “Tell Them About Us”. Golden Bear winner Adina Pintilie is developing her next project “Death And the Maiden”, which follows “Touch Me Not”. Hopefully, with “I’m Your Man” by Maria Schrader starring this year’s Berlinale winner Maren Eggert, the lights will soon come back on in cinemas! #kinoleuchtet
