PRESS RELEASE

Berlin / Potsdam
– The Berlin government is making Germany's No. 1 film location even more attractive by creating solid framework conditions for the film industry and for filming. Movies and series "Made in Berlin-Brandenburg" are in demand internationally and have become a global brand.

A one-stop shop for filming permits should make it much easier for the industry to film in streets and parks, and the shooting boom of cinema films and high-end series makes sure of full employment at the location.

Franziska Giffey, Governing Mayor of Berlin: "Berlin is the film capital of Germany. Our city already has the most filming days in the nation, the film industry is at home here and invests here with multiple knock-on effects for the region. This shapes the image of the city and has long been a significant economic factor. With our Senate resolution "Film-friendly City of Berlin" we're adapting the framework conditions to the current times and improving them further. Three factors here are particularly important: record levels of film funding, a central contact point for filming permits and increased equipment, and a new location for the German Film and Television Academy Berlin. Filmmakers from all over the world receive a warm welcome here because our city is simply the most splendid setting."

Kirsten Niehuus, MBB Managing Director: "Berlin LOVES Film! In a nutshell, that's the message the Senate is sending to the film industry via its "Film Friendly City" resolution. According to the resolution, and among other factors, approval processes for filming are to be simplified in the future in order to make the nationally and internationally sought-after filming location for films and series even more attractive. This is a step that is immensely important with over 6,000 filming days annually – the movie clapper is used around 17 times a day in the metropolitan region. It's a wonderful sound that signals not only 'Action!' but also jobs and location marketing."
