Berlin provides 10 million euros for film and television default fund

Berlin / Potsdam – On the basis of a proposal by the governing mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, the senate decided to make 10 million euros available for the film default funds I and II. This will allow for a mitigation of coronavirus-related losses during filming up to November 1, 2020.
Michael Müller: “As the largest film location in Germany, we very much welcome the fact that it has been possible to get the default funds I and II on the way. In cooperation with the producers’ associations, we developed the two-pillar model for coverage of coronavirus-related losses during shoots for film and television productions, since this kind of insurance is vital for the film industry. Without the default funds I and II, the risk of shooting in times of the pandemic would be unmanageable for producers. We are particularly happy about the agreement reached by all the federal states involved that the process will be handled centrally and unbureaucratically by the German Federal Film Board (FFA). We hope to provide film creators with a solid toolkit so that the production of high-quality cinematic content ‘Made in Berlin’ can continue.”
6 million euros will go into the so-called default fund I for defaults in cinema and high-end series productions in Berlin, which are supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH. The share of 4 million euros serves to secure TV and streaming productions by Berlin producers through the default fund II.
