Helge Jürgens, Medienboard managing director for new media funding: “11 nominations for 7 games from the German capital city region for the most important German gaming industry award! Wow! We are keeping our fingers firmly crossed for bildundtonfabrik for ‘Trüberbrook’ and all the other nominees from Berlin-Brandenberg at the awards ceremony in Berlin! This event will take place in the context of #gamesweekberlin. The array of events as well as the numerous nominations – mainly in the aspiring creators’ categories – show once again that the capital city region is becoming one of the most innovative development locations for games both nationally and internationally.”

The winners will be announced at a gala event hosted by Ina Müller, in the Admiralspalast in Berlin on 9 April. The German Computer Game Prize is the most important prize for the German gaming industry with 590,000 euros in prize money. It has been awarded since 2009 and honours the best computer and video games “made in Germany”. The specialist and main jury panels, which are made up of distinguished experts, select the best games in 13 categories based on aspects such as quality, innovative content, playing enjoyment as well as cultural and educational qualities. In the public’s choice category, gamers have the opportunity of voting for their favourites. Online voting starts on 6 March at www.deutscher-computerspielpreis.de/publikumspreis.

During the DCP, #gamesweekberlin is simultaneously taking place in the capital. From 8 to 14 April 2019, the gaming industry as well as gaming enthusiasts are getting together for more than 10 individual events. This year, all events will be united in the same location for the first time, on the premises of the KulturBrauerei. Besides the DCP, the Medienboard is funding the opening, Quo Vadis, Matchmaking Dinner, Womenize!, German Esports Summit, Gamefest and A MAZE. #gamesweekberlin is Germany’s leading communication and networking platform for international games developers, publishers, investors and representatives of the whole media industry and last time attracted roughly 15,000 visitors. www.gamesweekberlin.de.
