PRESS RELEASE

Bad Belzig / Potsdam
– 15 game developers will dive deep down the rabbit hole and work on the game of their dreams during the MBB-funded residency programme at the Coconat Space in Bad Belzig – from the concept via the Game Design Document (GDD) to the prototype or finished game. A comprehensive framework programme helps to support personal exchange, networking and creative collaboration, far away from the stress of everyday life in the middle of Brandenburg’s nature in the Fläming Forest. Coconat stands for “community and concentrated work in nature”.
For “The Rabbit”, applications were received from 6 countries. 60% of the participants are women. Among the accepted projects, 4 are MBB-funded: the follow-up project of the game “Kraken Academy!!” by Happy Broccoli Games, which was nominated for the German Computer Game Award; “Duru” by the Twisted Ramble founders team; “Oddada” by Sven Ahlgrimm; and “Concealed Crime” by Creating Corner. In addition, the teams of PandaBee (Leipzig), The Apothecary (USA), and Spellgarden Games (Stuttgart) are coming to Brandenburg.

Helge Jürgens, CEO New Media Funding, Medienboard:
“We are looking forward to the start of the residency programme for developers of games in Brandenburg. With a comprehensive accompanying programme comprised of workshops and mastermind sessions, young talent can be supported in a targeted manner. With this, the MBB is addressing the games industry’s desire for further training and professionalisation measures: An opportunity for indie developers and up-and-coming talent – but also for the location of Berlin-Brandenburg. I am very pleased that we have been privileged to support and accompany the residency programme right from the very start.”

Julianne Becker, CEO of Coconat – A Workation Retreat:
“We are looking forward to ‘The Rabbit’, our first Games Residency here in Bad Belzig. Coconat is located in the middle of the Fläming Heath, surrounded by forests and meadows. There is nothing to hear but wind, birds, and the gentle clacking of computer keyboards. An ideal place for “workation” - productive work, creativity, exchange and relaxation! We can hardly wait to introduce the programme: Excursions into the Brandenburg wilderness, encounters with the local gaming scene, mastermind sessions, co-working, and many more opportunities to take your own project to the next level! Could there be any better timing, especially now that spring is starting!”

On March 31st, the participants will watch the streamed award ceremony of the 2022 German Computer Game Prize (#derDCP) together – and cheer along with Happy Broccoli Games, who are nominated for their MBB-funded game “Kraken Academy!!” in the “Best Game Design” category.
