New funding programme DIGITAL FILM PRODUCTION for the film capital

Berlin / Potsdam – Mayor and Senator Ramona Pop, Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery Christian Gaebler and Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus are introducing a new, innovative funding programme for the media location Berlin today:
The special programme DIGITAL FILM PRODUCTION will be reinforcing the national and international competitiveness of the film location Berlin in terms of film production with digital key technologies with 2 million euros per year effective immediately. Its target group are executive film producers with a particular expertise in computer-generated imagery (CGI) or visual effects (VFX).
Virtual image generation plays an increasingly important role during all production steps in the creation of cinema films, series and audio-visual content. The special programme includes all stages of digital film creation. It is mainly intended to promote projects which can be expected to have economic effects for Berlin and can provide proof of excellent creative merit. The Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises provides the means, Medienboard takes care of implementing the promotion. The programme starts on 3 August 2020.

Christian Gaebler, Head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at MBB: “Visual effects are an integral part of any high-quality cinema and TV production. The fact that VFX and animation can now also receive support from the Medienboard is a future-oriented component in the funding portfolio of the film metropolis of Berlin. It is also essential in order to further develop the rapidly growing industry in the area of technology and to reinforce our international competitiveness.”
Kirsten Niehuus, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg managing director for film funding: “Supporting digital film production completes our film funding portfolio with an essential, future-oriented column which will make the film location even more attractive. It means that the real-life shooting location will be a mere ‘kangaroo hop’ removed from virtual-near-future or digital-history Berlin.
