6 MBB-funded VR experiences at Venice Immersive and two in the competition

‘Emperor’ and ‘Upwind’ are selected for the virtual reality competition ‘Venice Immersive’ #MBBFunded

Berlin / Potsdam / Venice - Strong presence of MBB-funded VR projects at Venice Immersive, the VR section of the 80th Venice International Film Festival! A total of six VR experiences are represented, with two in the virtual reality competition: Aufwind (Volucap) and Emperor (Reynard Films). Tales Of The March (Daring House) has been selected for the Biennale College Cinema VR section.

At the Venice Production Bridge, the festival’s co-production market, the three funded titles Selina (Trotzkind), Living With The Snow Leopards (NowHere Media Gaedtke & Parameswaran) and An Empty Seat (High Road Stories) are also being shown. Germany is partner country of the Venice Production Bridge this year.

This makes a total of six MBB-funded VR projects in the programme and market!

44 projects from 25 countries are running in the official programme. A member of the international VR jury is Pedro Harres, director of the MBB-funded VR project From The Main Square (Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF), which won the Venice Immersive Grand Jury Prize in 2022.

Venice Immersive, the extended reality section of the Venice International Film Festival (30 August to 9 September 2023), is entirely dedicated to immersive media and covers all XR methods of creative expression: 360° videos and XR projects of all lengths, including installations and virtual worlds. The festival was one of the first to integrate an XR section into its programme. This year, the MBB is represented at Venice Immersive with more funded projects than ever before.

The Venice film programme will be published on 25 July.
