Berlin / Potsdam – First New Media funding session of 2026: the funding committee awards around €2 million to 19 games and XR projects as well as serial formats.

In the category of serial formats, seven projects receive funding, including HELIKOPTER, the series debut of Eugen Merher. The filmmaker was previously nominated for a Student Academy Award for his short film THE BOY WHO COULDN’T FEEL PAIN. A new project by the Beetz Brothers has also been selected: the documentary series DEUTSCHLAND: RECHTS. The fiction series SKINSEAST by WennDann Film is planned as a contemporary East German adaptation of the British hit series from 2007, set in Brandenburg.

In the games category, KALDA, the next project by the creators of REKA (Emberstorm Entertainment), is ready to launch. REKA had already impressed with its distinctive visual worlds and was also very successful from an economic perspective. MBB continues to focus on emerging talent and is funding several games by developers from HTW Berlin: CARDS & CANNONS (Flamehead Games), BEAK BANDITS (Lampy Games), and THE LAST EGG (Marlene Holly).

In the field of Innovative Audiovisual Content, among others, two major location-based XR experiences are being supported, to be realized as international co-productions: THE BERLIN WALL by Filmtank in collaboration with Lucid Realities (France), and POETICS OF SOIL: WOOD WIDE WEB by NEEEU Spaces in collaboration with Marshmallow Laser Feast (UK) and Vive Arts/TAIC (Taiwan).

A total of 50 applications were submitted, requesting funding amounting to €4.9 million.

Further news from the 2025 funding year: Through Digital Media Production Brandenburg, four projects are being supported with €570,000, including a virtual production pilot for the UFA hit series GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN in broadcaster cooperation with RTL, as well as a series pilot by ZWEIFLERS producers Turbokultur, the political debate club format DEBATING EUROPE. In the DIGI.Tale emerging talent program, four projects are funded with €80,000.
