New Media Funding: €1.8 Million for 23 New Games, XR and Series Projects

Berlin / Potsdam – In its third funding session of the year, the New Media Funding Committee has awarded approximately €1.8 million to 23 games and XR projects, as well as serial formats.
Among the supported serial productions are the handball documentary HANDS OF GOLD (working title) by beetz brothers film production, a documentary series about Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 by Story House Productions, and the star-studded comedy mini-series LITTI’S FAHRSCHULE by JPJ Filmproductions, featuring Kida Khodr Ramadan, Alexandra Maria Lara, Teddy Teclebrhan, and Cindy aus Marzahn, among others.
Three international co-productions are receiving development funding: MONKEY IN THE BASEMENT, a workplace comedy by Pink Fox Storyhouse and Overlook Entertainment (Bulgaria), NORTH OF NOWHERE, a crime series by Merry Pictures and Kaiho Republic (Finland), HOUSE OF SHIPS, a documentary series about international commercial shipping by zero one film and Elk Films (Denmark) / Anemon Film (Greece).
The funded games showcase a wide range of genres. They include cozy adventure titles such as FUHON by Twinleaf Studio and FINDLINGS by Studio Hoppala, as well as the horror game LEVIATHAN by Level Blue.
In total, four studios from the nationwide game start-up scholarship program Press Start are receiving support. Alongside Level Blue (LEVIATHAN) and Twinleaf Studio (FUHON), funding is also being awarded to Skaldery Games and Midnight Muse Games. Through this support, MBB is specifically investing in emerging talent, which is crucial for the establishment of new game development studios in the region.
In the category XR and Other Innovative Audiovisual Content, several projects stand out for exploring the relationship between humans, humanity, and technology. Among them are the multi-user mixed reality installations THE OPPOSITE OF BEING by Reynard Films—director Celine Daemen is internationally renowned for her immersive and visually striking worlds—and INTER(MEDIATE) SPACES by Present Futures.
MBB is also supporting a new project from Arkanum Pictures: the science-fiction VR experience AEYUNA XR.
A total of 45 applications were submitted, requesting approximately €3.6 million in funding.
