SPOTLIGHT on GAMES!

Nominated at German Computer Game Award: Finding Hannah, ABRISS - Build to Destroy, Die magische Bretterbudenburg

  • 4 nominations for 3 MBB-funded games at the DCP 2023
  • A total of 9 nominations for the capital region – including Best German Game
  • Spotlight Games Berlin: MBB invites to a get-together on 11 May

Berlin / Potsdam - The German Computer Game Award (Deutscher Computerspielpreis, DCP), the most important award in the German games industry, will be awarded on 11 May in Berlin. The Medienboard-sponsored award ceremony can also be seen in the live stream and will be hosted by presenter Katrin Bauerfeind and entertainer Uke Bosse. This year the DCP is endowed with 800,000 euros and is awarded in 15 categories.

The Berlin games industry is represented with 9 nominations, and 3 MBB-funded games in 4 different categories are in the running:

  • Die Magische Bretterbudenburg (Meander Books) as Best Family Game
  • ABRISS – Build to Destroy (Randwerk Games) as Best Expert Game and for Best Graphic Design
  • Finding Hannah (Fein Games) for Best Graphic Design

The Berlin-based studio Paintbucket Games, which has received funding from the MBB several times, enters the race in the Studio of the Year category and with ‘Beholder 3’ as Best German Game. It is also nominated for Best Serious Game and Best Audio Design. Berlin-based developers Yager Development are nominated with ‘The Cycle: Frontier’ in the Best Audio Design category.

There are also further exciting events for the games industry in the capital region in spring #MBBFunded

  • Spotlight Games Berlin – on 11 May, an industry get-together will take place for the first time in the afternoon of the DCP event: MBB warmly invites game creators, policy-makers and the media to the Change Hub at the Zoological Gardens Berlin to celebrate the games industry in the capital region.
  • Pictoplasma brings together international speakers and guests to discuss character design from 03 to 07 May.
  • A MAZE. / Berlin:from 10 to 13 May, the Festival for Arthouse Games and Playful Media invites you to an inspiring programme consisting of talks, performances and an award show.
  • medianet GAMES Matchmaking Brunch on 12 May gathers the industry for an after-DCP hangover breakfast.
  • The specialist conference organised by the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur (Digital Games Culture Foundation) on 19 May, on the topic of inclusion and accessibility, will discuss accessibility in gaming.
  • Through MBB-funded projects such as Brandenburg’s The Rabbit Games Residency, the Erich Pommer Institute’s Play, Promote, Publish marketing strategy workshop and the Start-up: Games-Entrepreneurs programme of the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur, local and international developer teams will be given the opportunity for professionalisation, networking and greater visibility this spring.
