Berlin-Brandenburg Gives Cinema a Boost: MBB Supplements the Federal Cinema Program Award

Berlin / Potsdam – More cinema, darling! As the first regional funding organization to do so, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB) is providing additional support to Liebling Kino (“Favorite Cinema”), the Federal Government’s cinema program award scheme. Going forward, cinemas in Berlin and Brandenburg can apply to MBB for supplementary funding and use their reference points to qualify for an additional grant. More than €700,000 has been allocated for the first funding round.

Liebling Kino recognizes cinemas for their cultural programming efforts, particularly those that give outstanding visibility to German, European, and artistically ambitious films. Berlin-Brandenburg is Germany’s most diverse cinema market, and the MBB grant strengthens the competitiveness of local cinemas while honoring the exceptional commitment of cinema operators and programmers across the region.

All information and application forms are available on the MBB website.

Sarah Duve-Schmid, CEO of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg:

“The cinema landscape of the capital region is among the most diverse and creative in Germany. With exceptionally curated programs, cinema operators attract passionate audiences and help shape a unique film culture and cinema scene. By complementing the Liebling Kino funding program, MBB is sending a strong signal of its ongoing commitment to supporting and strengthening Berlin-Brandenburg as a leading cinema location.”
